 2009 ringing at Fuente de Piedra (Spain)

This year, about 9,500 pairs (provisional number) of flamingos bred at Fuente de Piedra Lake, and the nursery was 5,071 chicks. Another year, a total of 600 chicks (a representative sample of the total raised) were ringed at Fuente de Piedra on 18th July 2009. Since 1986 a long-term capture and resighting program of Flamingos has been conducted at Fuente de Piedra as part of the Flamingo Ringing Program of the Consejería de Medio Ambiente, Junta de Andalucía (Dept. of the Environment).

This activity was coordinated by Flamingo Ringing Program with collaboration from the capture and ringing was carried out with the help of 425 Participants: Estación Biológica de Doñana, local volunteers, ornithologists, conservationists and scientists. We obtained 600 blood samples for determining the sex and health evaluations . The pre-ringing activities on 17th July, was prepared with the municipality of Fuente de Piedra.
