This year, flamingos bred in a third colony in Turkey. Acigol, located in the Mediterranean (37° 48’N, 29° 49’E) is a site where reproduction took place in 1993 with 100 pairs counted. During the last three years, a volunteer was in charge of making surveys at the site but never observed a colony. Finally this year, through the observations sent to Kusbank, an internet based spatial database on birds (www.kusbank.org), we received the good news: at 16 April 2006, two bird watchers observed some flamingo nests at Acigol. The same observers made a second survey at 8 July 2006 and observed 100 chicks of 30-40 cm and dark grey colour at the site. This confirmed that a successful reproduction occurred in Acigol this year, for the second time since 1993.
